The museum project is taking shape again after the devastation caused by Storm Alex in 2021, which destroyed the original museum in Saint Martin Vésubie. The new space will include a dedicated room, ‘Juifs et Justes’, focusing on the history of the Jewish refugees and the Righteous Among the Nations in Saint Martin Vésubie during 1943.
A key part of this project is the partnership with Memo4345, the museum in Borgo San Dalmazzo (Italy), that tells the story of the Jews who arrived there in September 1943. By linking AMONT’s work with theirs, they are creating a single, shared database – already of nearly a thousand names – that will continue to grow as new discoveries and documents appear.
The new exhibition at Saint Martin will be highly interactive and innovative: visitors will be able to watch a large-scale film projection, explore testimonies on six tablets, an interactive kiosk, and even use an AI tool to create a personalised visit according to their interests.
Beyond the exhibition itself, trained guides will lead excursions retracing the paths of the original exodus, and there will be a formalised village tour which will highlight the area’s Jewish history. As an additional resource, the book Carnet 11: Juifs et Justes de Saint Martin Vésubie has been published (soon available in English).
If anyone has any photos or documents that you would like to see included – whether the original or a scanned copy – please do not hesitate to send them.
